The BASI system, designed by Rael, is a unique training method that categorizes hundreds of exercises in Pilates training. This is an approach that allows the trainer to create a system of balance and use of all the body's muscle groups.

The content of the Mat Instructor Training Course is the same globally. The course consists of 6 modules (units). The modules consists of lecture notes and movement instruction, and takes a total of 24 hours.
Requirements for Qualification
The following three certification requirements must be completed within the allotted time of the training course.
Attend all modules on the prescribed timetable.

Movement inspection exam (the teacher chooses to inspect from the
movements learned)

※Passing the final exam requires a score of at least 70%
※ If you fail the exam, you will be asked to practice based on the teacher's
feedback and pay 150USD to retake the exam
Mat module (Mat coach unit)
Primary concepts covered include the 10 movement principles of the Pilates method, an overview of the pelvic region and Pilates breathing. A historical overview of Pilates is presented, plus the BASI® approach, and the importance of safety when teaching Pilates are discussed. Repertoire includes fundamental Mat. A mat class is taught.
Primary concepts covered include an anatomy and terminology overview: major bones, muscles, joints, bony landmarks and center of gravity. The importance and practice of cueing is discussed. Repertoire covered includes intermediate Mat exercises. A one mat class is taught.
Primary concepts covered include the BASI® system of movement analysis, exercise physiology, and aerobic/anaerobic exercise. The BASI® format of teaching is discussed and the Block System®, created by Rael Isacowitz, is introduced. Repertoire covered is intermediate Mat and Leg Weights. A mat class is taught.
Primary concepts covered are core strength and the relationship of the various muscle groups that make up the core with particular focus on the abdominals and the back extensors. Contraindications, effective exercises and the importance of understanding your client's needs and body type are discussed. Also addressed are the role of the teacher and the importance of flow in a session. Repertoire covered is advanced Mat. A mat class is taught.

Comprehensive program is equivalent to completing both the Mat and Machine program. The course consists of 18 modules (units). The modules consists of lecture notes and movement instruction, and takes a total of 72 hours.

Primary concepts covered are the meaning of balance, and the implications of imbalances in strength and flexibility. Lecture focuses on functional exercises, movement patterns, neuromuscular re-education and muscle testing. Repertoire taught includes intermediate and advanced Reformer, Wunda Chair, and Cadillac.
Primary concepts covered include the hip joint, the knee joint and the ankle-foot complex. The gait cycle is discussed and analyzed. Repertoire taught is intermediate Reformer, Wunda Chair, and Cadillac.
Primary concepts covered are the structure and function of the shoulder region. The shoulder joint, muscles of the shoulder, and the importance of correct shoulder mechanics are presented. Lecture includes how to work with clients with shoulder problems and recognizing scope of practice. Repertoire taught is intermediate Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, and introduction of the Ladder Barrel and Step Barrel.
Primary concepts covered are the principles of training, such as overload, specificity and reversibility. Components of physical fitness are addressed and analyzed. Lecture includes repertoire levels and how they relate to working with a broad range of clientele. Repertoire taught is advanced Reformer, Wunda Chair, and Cadillac.
Primary concepts covered are habitual movement patterns, cross training, imbalances and setting goals. The athletic population is looked at closely. Additionally, populations with restrictions and an in-depth look at pregnancy guidelines. Lecture includes teaching men and women, different body types as well as objectives and approaches. A general review of the repertoire is conducted. Lecture focuses on teaching methodologies. Repertoire taught includes intermediate- and advanced-level work on both Ladder Barrel and Step Barrel. The Final Written Examination will be available online at the completion of the module.

Asako
Grown bilingually in both Japan and the US, Asako has been associated with Pilates through her surfing community in LA. She became a BASI faculty member and is now a great promoter for BASI in Asia, extensively teaching BASI teacher training programs for students in China, Thailand, Taiwan, and Japan.
Ena
Trained under Mr. Rael Isacowitz, the founder of BASI Pilates. Ena served as his assistant in conferences in Tokyo and courses at the Newport Beach headquarters. She also instructs at Cypress Center owned by BASI instructor Samantha Wood in Los Angeles. She frequently commutes between California and Tokyo, teaching BASI classes and courses.

Smith
Jordanna is a certified Pilates specialist and the owner of BASI Pilates Academy in Brisbane, Australia. She loves to witness her clients' progress from the onset of the program through to obtaining functional movement patterns. Jordanna is proud to represent BASI Pilates Australia alongside her husband, Shayne.
Eduard
Botha
A certified BASI Pilates instructor and a faculty member conducting training courses worldwide for over 20 years. His teaching at Pilates Anytime is well-known among both BASI and non-BASI Pilates practitioners. Ed was a martial arts instructor and a certified personal fitness trainer at the Exercise Teachers Academy in South Africa before becoming a Pilates instructor.
Shayne
Smith
Shayne is a qualified Karate instructor and a certified Pilates specialist. Rael’s inspiration in the Pilates method has encouraged Shayne to further emphasize the importance of Pilates for men. With a desire to enhance his knowledge in the Pilates field, he studied neurology and pain management.
